You will agree with me that one of the most used words in
all of history is the word, "Love". Love is the feeling of great
fondness or enthusiasm for a person or thing.
A mother, just delivered of her baby, showers it on the new world
comer; siblings show it to each other; parents express it to their children;
people, for the sake of the word, can do anything to make friends happy; some
people show it to other people just for goodness sake; and also, lover boys
sing enchanting songs to their lover girls, and vice versa, to shows how
mad-in-love they are.
But before you make any further use of the word, have you
taken time to know what you say you feel? Has it occurred to you that there
might be more to it than meets the heart/mind? Do you desire to ask: what is
this whole love thing about? Well, be relaxed, the answer is just some lines
away.
Just as there is a mark or quality by which anything is
known, there is also a means to identify whether it is love. So before you
attach your swept-off-the-ground feeling to the obvious, here are the
characteristics/features of love:
1. Love is patient;
2. Love is kind;
3. Love does not boast;
6. Love is not self-seeking/selfish;
7. Love is not easily angered;
8. Love keeps no record of wrongs;
9. Love does not delight in evil;
10. Love rejoices with the truth;
11. Love always protects;
12. Love always trusts;
13. Love always hopes;
14. Love always perseveres/endures; and
15. Love never fails. (1Corinthians 13:4-8)
So, if you have love for someone and/or some people and
after reading the above, there's at least one characteristic short of that
feeling, then it is something else; not love. All the features must be available
for your claim and show of love to "hold water".
