Drama On The First Day Of School Resumption

“…Baby. Come. Hug me! Hug me! Hug me!”

It was the beginning of a new session. Students of this great institute of learning resumed after a 2-month vacation. They've had a tough end of the previous session; they were given little time to prepare for the sessional examination after the school authorities called them back when lecturers suspended the strike action they embarked on for months over payment of salaries and some other internal issues.

Students trooped into their classes in ones and twos and in a space of two hours, all classes were filled (about 75%). They entered with joyful faces, smiling at each other, having loud laughs, calling each other funny names and so on. It was the same in Ochuko’s class. As he arrived, he was greeted with a loud noise. Some called him by his sobriquet; other saluted him as if he was an officer in the Army. Some other guys and babes took turns to greet him either by the shaking of hands or hugging. He was the recipient of the Most Handsome Guy Award for the past session at the gala night which was held in the school’s auditorium on the last day of the session. Little wonder his popularity. The accolades for him continued, making some girls wishing to have him on their list of boyfriends, and some hateful guys jealous. All these were going on but the 'tempo' soon changed as Bimpe, a fair in complexion lady, who has a beautiful face, with long black hair, spotless skin, sexy brown eyes, moderately ‘endowed’ and legs slightly bowed, standing at 5 ft 9’ entered. She wore a sleeveless gown with its length just above her knees and a high heel shoe to match. Gradually, the class became silent as she entered; everyone turned their heads to the entrance to see who just came in. On seeing her, some guys continued to stare at her elegance, some ladies nodded their heads, appreciation her beauty; while some others hissed and continued with their gossip – well, she didn't ‘send’ their hailing and greetings anyways as she had beforehand cautioned them severally. Then all of a sudden, Ochuko shouted, “Bimpe Baby. Come. Hug me! Hug me! Hug me!”

Ochuko, one of the school's badt guys, has been wooing Bimpe for a long time, but all the coding he knows to ‘decode’ a babe didn't worked on her. He then went out of his way to lobby for that coveted prize. He thought that would give him an upper hand in winning her. Bimpe wasn't around for the Award night but he made sure the news of his new feat got to her. With that, he believed he now had her in his court; no wonder the boldness and excitement in his voice. As he called, she just looked at him, sized him up with her eyes and walked towards one of her friends. Ochuko, who wouldn't take that as the guys were now mocking him, said, “Bimpe, come hug me or else what happened three and a half years ago will happen again.” Immediately she turned, and the question on her mind, as with others in class was: what happened three and a half years ago? With more vigour in his voice, he said the line again; and this time, she was uncomfortable, other classmates with her. They begged her to do what he wanted for fear of a bad occurrence, to which she refused vehemently. He continued saying it repeatedly and he was becoming a nuisance. She, now afraid and more uncomfortable, thought for some seconds, and then went to meet him for a hug. He put his arms around her and held her tight for the next few seconds, then released her. He sighed heavily with a sense of fulfillment. The whole class, as if controlled by a remote, then asked in one voice, “So tell us, what happened three and a half years ago? He was expecting them to ask. He stood straight, look them all in their eyes, opened his mouth and said, “Three and a half years ago, a babe refuse to hug me; me, fine boy Ochuko. It happened in public, in presence of my friends. I couldn't bear the embarrassment; I went straight to hug a transformer! You all don't what to know what happened next, do you?”

As expected, no lecturer showed up to lecture the students, but who cared? No one did. Students came to see faces of friends (and unfriendly-friends) they haven’t seen in months, and that they accomplished. The day came to an end with hundreds of students of this great institute of learning going home and telling each other how prepared they must be for subsequent lecture days because(from experience gained from other sessions) what they will witness is a bombardment of lectures on new courses they're billed to offer.
